New Release: Out NOW
He Aha Te Aha
with Kapa Haka o Ngati Whakaue
A New Waiata Honouring the 28th Māori Battalion
Released during 2025 ANZAC week, He Aha Te Aha is the latest waiata from Nikau Grace — a powerful, emotionally resonant anthem produced by Kings and featuring the award-winning Kapa Haka o Ngāti Whakaue. More than a tribute, this song is a wero (challenge) to the next generation: to carry forward the legacy of the 28th Māori Battalion and complete the hīkoi they began.
With the passing of Bom Gillies in 2024, He Aha Te Aha marks the first year without any living veterans from the Battalion. The waiata speaks to their enduring sacrifice — not only in war, but in the fight for justice, land, and recognition at home.
“This isn’t just a song. It’s a call to carry their story forward,” says Nikau Grace. “Our tīpuna began the hīkoi. Now, it’s our time to finish it.”
